MPLA TRAINING INSTITUTE

One Year Certificate Course in Offset Printing

Introduction

The MPLA Training Centre was started in 1997. Now it has been upgraded to a Training Institute to impart training in various areas of printing technology and allied subjects. One of its regular courses will be a One-Year Certificate Course in Offset Printing.

Objectives

The course is designed to assist the offset machine operators in understanding the operative requirements of Offset Printing machine. The programme is structured to push the trainees to reach their true potential, so that by the end of the course they feel a strong sense of personal achievements and understanding of the subject matter.

The trainees will learn to solve offset press problems faster, when they understand how an offset press really works. The operator can learn what he can and can't do with the offset printing machine, so that he can increase productivity. He can learn to use the quality control aids to produce good quality colour printing. The course has been designed so that each student is exposed to pre-press areas and other latest developments in offset printing.

First half of Training course - 6 months

The first half of this one-year course will be theoretical introduction to pre-press and offset printing process as per syllabus.

Practicals (Second half - 6 months)

Introduction to printing processes Design, Layout preparation of camera ready copy
Pre-press Offset printing DTP-orientation and proof correction
Sheet-fed Offset printing Process camera - Line & Halftone process, colour separation outline
Advanced sheet-fed operations - process colour printing Film assembly
Trouble shooting skill for sheetfed offset press and remedies Offset plate making
Maintenance and preventive maintenance methods Offset press work - Small Offset
Paper & Ink Sheet-fed offset press work
Postprinting & Book Binding Ink & Colour mixing
  Handling of paper and printed materials

The faculty will consist of Lecturers and instructors from printing schools and / or those who retired from there industry, experts with years of experience.

Course Medium - English and Tamil

Eligibility - Candidates should have passed the Government XIIth std examination

Candidate's age should be above 18 years and below 25 years at the time of admission.

The candidate should possess good physique, eyesight and needs a Doctor's certificate.

MPLA may relax educational qualifications in each case of a candidate with some practical experience and sponsored by a printing press.

Selection: Selection of the candidates will be through a written test and an interview

Course Fees: Rs.10000/- per candidate to be paid along with prescribed Application From duly filled in.

The first batch students have come out in flying colours, four of them in distinction and three of them in First class. All of them  have found placements. Certificates will be awarded to them at a function on 31st October.
